A Reminder: Send a Reminder.
With our fundraising deadline less than 1 month away (yep, you read that right – our deadline is July 2nd!), it’s time to really buckle down and surpass our fundraising goals. If you’re feeling like your fundraising has been moving slower than your 5th hill repeat on the west drive, it’s time to send a friendly reminder to your friendly donors.
The other day at GTS I was talking to a teammate who was expressing frustration about not having any luck with his contacts that he thought would contribute.
“Have you sent a reminder?” I asked.
“A reminder??”
“Yes, you need to remind people to contribute!”
“I hadn’t thought of that!”
“Duh!”
If you sent your fundraising emails months ago and the donations have stopped coming in, it’s time to send a reminder. I’m sure that we’re all aware what I call the ‘email blackhole’ – if something falls below the first page of your inbox, chances are it’s out of sight out of mind. You probably have hundreds, if not thousands of dollars out there waiting to be donated, but your message fell into the blackhole.
So, open up your original email, hit ‘reply all’ and get yourself back on the radar. I guarantee if you send a reminder someone out there will respond with a donation. If they don’t, let me know and I’ll make a donation!
Also, another friendly reminder – if you need help, email us!

We’ve Raised How Much?!
Wondering just how all of your donations are adding up? Well, I just got news from Wendy at TNT that so far, our team has raised an incredible
$676,002.96!
That’s alot of dough, but it still puts us just past the half-way point to our goal of $1.2 million. With 8 weeks left until race day, there’s still time to reach and surpass our goal. Even if you’ve reached your minimum, please continue to fundraise and help our team raise the most money any TNT team has brought in to-date.
Thank you!

- What: Maureen White’s KARAOKE FOR KATHY!
- When: Thursday June 5, 7:30 – 10:30 pm
- Where: Iggy’s, 2nd Avenue between 75th and 76th streets
From Maureen: I am gearing up for the New York City triathlon again this year and want to have fun while fulfilling my fundraising obligation for New York City’s Chapter of Team in Training. Team in Training is this fantastic organization that trains people for endurance events in exchange for fundraising for blood cancer research.
The wanting to have fun part is where you come in. karaoke + open bar + friends = Fun!
This year is very special because I am honoring the one and only Kathy McBeth; friend, mother, wife, aunt, sister, daughter, blood cancer survivor, cancer patient counselor, dog lover, snow shoe-ing maniac, unofficial grand dame of Stowe, Vermont and all around remarkable woman. If you know her, it is hard to image the world without her. So please come and sing your heart out in her honor!
There will be lots of fun people, an open bar (did I mention that earlier?) and even a few enticing raffle prizes. Think of this post-memorial day gala as your REAL kick-off to summer! No, you do not have to sing, but yes, you do have to show up and give Kathy a hug, even if you don’t know her.
Please spread the word…all are welcome. More info will come later, but here are the basics.

Where Do Your Donors Dollars Go?
With re-commitment only one week away (May 7th!), now is the time ask your friends and family to contribute. If you’re looking for a little something to spice up you messages to you donors, here is a some information about what a big impact that their modest donations can have.
What does a $25, $50 $100 or $1000 donation buy?
- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members
- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
- A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Two Weeks ‘Till Re-Commitment
Re-What?! Re-Commitment is a policy that TNT has to ensure that you’re still on board. If you’re decided that maybe this Tri thing isn’t for you, this is your time to jump ship. But, we’re really hoping that you’re up for the challenge of finishing what you started, and so this deadline will be as easy running to the south west corner of the reservoir.
Here’s the deal: this week, you’ll receive a form from the TNT staff that you will need to fill out and send back to them by May 7th. If you’re in it for the long haul, but you haven’t quite reached that 25% of the minimum ($625), then TNT will charge the difference to you. This will be reimbursed to you when you reach your fundraising minimum.
The TNT office will be holding recommitment conference calls to answer any questions they have. These calls will be held on:
Thursday May 1st 3:00pm
Friday May 2nd at 11:00am
The number to call is:
Dial-In Number: (866) 546-6812
Conference Code: 8333102855
If you can’t call into one of these but have a question, please email us and we will do our best to help. If you’re having trouble, remember that there’s no “i” in Team — talk to your mentor, call the LLS office, email us. Go Team!

Slides from the Fundraising Clinic.
If you missed the fundraising clinics this month, you can download the powerpoint presentation here. It contains information on how to spiff up your fundraising site using a Rock You slideshow; tips on hosting an event; and information on letter writing.
Speaking of letter writing – TODAY is the last day for you to drop off your letters at the LLS to receive free postage! The LLS is located at 475 Park Ave. South, 8th floor.
And speaking of the LLS – Wendy has answered all your questions from the fundraising clinic and posted the answers in this document. Read it over – it contains a ton of great information!
Both these documents also live on the Forms & Docs page, so they’ll be easy for you to find in the future.
