FAQs
Each time we receive a question from a teammate that we think might be useful to everyone, we’ll post it here.
Q: Is there a certificate or receipt provided by TNT for donors who simply donate by check? If so, how would my I go about obtaining one or getting it to the donor?
A: The LLS doesn’t send receipts for checks sent, they can use their cancelled check as the receipt. The IRS does not require donations under $250 to have a receipt.
Q: Should an offline donor send the check directly to me, or to the foundation? If the foundation, what is the address?
A: Donations sent via check are sent to our accounting department in Cincinnati and should include the attached Donation Submittal Form. The address is:
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
New York City Chapter
Department #914
PO Box 145900
Cincinnati, OH 45250
Q: I have been having trouble uploading a picture to my fundraising website, can you help?
A:
1. Pictures need to be in either jpeg or gif format
2. Pictures need to be 600 x 600 pixels or smaller
3. No bigger than 100 KB
4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I found that I could only upload pictures using Firefox as my browser, NOT Internet Explorer.
**thanks to Marisa Schwartz for this question, and for digging up the answer too! **
Q: My friend and I work together and share many mutual friends, we’d ideally like to set up 1 fundraising page with a $5,000 goal. This way, people can donate for both of us. Is this possible?
A: Unfortunately that is not possible. You need to each have a fundraising website with a minimum of $2500 for each of them. Sorry!
Q: I have a foundation in London that wants to contribute to my fundraising. The only way they can send money is through an inter-bank wire transfer. Is it possible to do this – can I get the Society’s bank info to make the transfer, and is there a way to have it credited to my goal? Or is this not possible?
A: Unfortunately, the LLS cannot accept wire transfers. They will have to make the donation via check or credit card.
Q: I’m organizing a fundraiser and am petitioning some big sponsors for prizes. Do we have a standard letter that LLS give to them for any tax deductible donations that they make, when they give physical contributions, ie tickets, equipment, etc?
A: The 501 c (3) form, that you’ll find on the forms & docs page of this blog can be handed out to business as proof of non-profit status and all Tax deductible donations and matching gift information.
Q: How do matching gifts work?
A:
1. The donor or participant needs to go to their human resource department and learn the process for matching gifts, every company is different
2. Most likely there will be a form to fill out, they must then complete their part (usually the to) sign it and fax or mail it to us (some companies only allow mail and not faxes)
Mail the form or email the form to:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Attention: Matching Gifts Coordinator
475 Park Avenue South, 8th Floor
New York, NY 10016
3. We then complete the second part, and we mail it back to your company
4. It can take anywhere from 2-4 months for the company to match the gift (most work on a quarterly level)
