Ongoing Fundraisers

Not much of an event planner? Finding it hard to garner enough support from letter writing? There’s a solution! Ongoing fundraisers are a good way to earn some income and put it towards your fundraising. Whether you’re a baker, an entrepreneur, a physical therapist or an artist, most of us have some sort of skill we can use to make fundraise some extra dollars.

In fact, a couple TNTers are leading the way and launching their ongoing fundraisers already. Check out the “Ongoing” tab up there for a comprehensive list, and send me links to your projects. I’ll post them as they come in, and also keep that Ongoing page up-t0-date.

Here’s what we’ve got so far:

Miriam Weiskind’s Encounter with Tori Spelling

MIRM – click the link, no further explanation necessary.

Michelle Chang’s Marble Brownies

MARBLE BROWNIES: Who doesn’t love a post run pat-yourself-on-the-back treat! Just 2 bucks a square folks. Made entirely from scratch and with love. Yes, I even melt the chocolate myself. For those that need to know, I use 100% natural whole wheat flour (unbleached), organic evaporated cane juice sugar, organic light brown sugar, eggs, sea salt, pure vanilla, imported semi-sweet, dark, and bittersweet chocolates, and unsalted butter. I will have these whenever possible after Tuesday Runs. Look for me, Michelle Chang, I’m a mentor.

Upcoming March Fundraisers

If you’re new to TNT, you’ll soon discover a fun way to kill two birds with one stone — to raise some funds for the LLS and party with your friends at the same time. Fundraising events can range from simply raising awareness about your cause to generating a significant amount of funds. If you come to one of the upcoming fundraising clinics in Manhattan or Brooklyn, we will give you tips and resources for planning a fundraiser.

In the meantime, you can take notes from your fellow teammates who are already in full-swing with their events. I will list events as they’re sent to us, so if you’re planning one, please let us know!

How To Tell Your Story

So, you’re working on your website and you’re wondering how you’re going to convince your friends and family that they should donate to your campaign, other than just having them to place bets on whether you’ll actually jump into the Hudson River this July?

One really great way to get your friends and family invested in your cause is to tell your compelling story about why you’re doing this. To help you create this story, I’ve dug up an article by the folks at Network for Good, along with an accompanying podcast about how to create a compelling story in 5 simple steps.

I’m listening to the podcast right now and while it’s more geared towards non-profit organizations, it also contains some great points that could be useful in creating your website and/or fundraising letter. Coincidentally, the example that the speaker uses is that of a marathoner/triathlete!

Read the article after the jump (click more…), or download the podcast here.

Happy writing!

Organize Your Calendar.

If you’re having trouble keeping track of all these dates and deadlines (and the season hasn’t even started yet), fret no longer! We’ve created a Google Calendar for you to keep track of all the important stuff.

This calendar will NOT have training information — it’s for fundraising/social and other events throughout the season. Check with the coaches for those dates/times.

This calendar WILL have fundraising events, so if you’re planning one, let us know and we’ll add it to the list.

For your convenience, there are many ways to view the calendar:

1. Look over there to the right. You’ll see a column that lists all the important events, and if you scroll over the event title, the date and location will appear. Click on the event name for more info.

2. Visit the GoogleCal website here.

3. Subscribe to the GoogleCal RSS here.

4. Subscribe to the GoogleCal in your iCal by copying this address http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/fundraisingcaptainsnyc08%40gmail.com/public/basic.ics and then in iCal click on “Calendar” and then “Subscribe” and paste the address. Ta-Da!

Kickoff….And Save $41.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at kickoff tonight!  The action gets underway at 7PM at the NY Blood Center on 67th Street between 1st and 2nd Ave.  If you can’t make it, please let your mentor know so that they can give you an extra-special welcome on Saturday.

Also, don’t forget that the FREE POSTAGE DEADLINE is March 3, so that is only one more week to get your first 100 letters in and save $41!  You can drop them off at the LLS office Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.  The address is 475 Park Avenue South (at 31st street) 8th Floor.

Welcome, TNT Fundraisers!

Hello Team!
Welcome to your TNT Fundraising Blog. The season is just starting out, but we guarantee by the end of July, you’re all going to be fundraiser extraordinaires. How do we know that? Because your mentors, the TNT staff, your coaches, and your teammates are going to help you do it.

Some of you may be intimidated by those four numbers following the $ that you agreed to bring in, but trust us, it’s a lot easier than you think. Ok, it’s not really going to be easy, but with a little effort, some courage and creativity you’ll get there just a quick as you’ll swim a mile in the Hudson.

Keep your eyes on this blog in the next couple weeks when we’ll be posting tips, ideas, and answering questions for you. In the meantime, why not make your life a little easier and subscribe to the TNT Fundraisers feed? Just click enter your email over there on the right, or subscribe via RSS using the link on the right.
